INCITE

The ministry, Making Connections, enhances bible literacy and provides professional development opportunities for people. An aspect of the production Magi & The Message is inspired by the work of Archaeologist, Bob Brier (Long Island University) and Astronomer and ancient Astrologist, Michael R. Molnar (Rutgers University). Their research shows that the Scholars from the East (also known as Three Kings or Three Wise Men) were from ancient Persia. Their investigation goes deeper. With computer technology, Molnar recreates the location of stars and planets in the galaxy (during the birth time of the Christ child) to determine what event in the sky might explain what guided the band of scholars on their journey to Jerusalem. Brier suggests that the initial sight of Bethlehem for the first Christian pilgrims might have been atop a hill, which would have made the Magi look down onto the birthplace city.

In the Magi & The Message visual art piece, we decided to make connections by illustrating our image of the Magi as they might have just arrived— on a hill overlooking a skyline with a star suspended above. We illustrated attire that the Magi might have traveled in: tunics, trousers and pointed hats. And since there is a strong tradition of the Magi depicted as three persons and at various ages, each of their garments and hats are distinctive to draw attention to their individualism.

Join us on December 28, 2014 at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Columbus, Ohio to make more connections. Arrange your schedule to experience our ministry within the 10:45 am church service.

Instructed by the king, they set off. Then the star appeared again, the same star they had seen in the eastern skies. It led them on until it hovered over the place of the child. They could hardly contain themselves: They were in the right place! They had arrived at the right time! (Matthew 2:9-10 MSG)
